LOWER QUEEN STREET PROPOSED PLAN
Cycles (ebikes, bicycles, e-scooters) are generally transiting (passing through, need to keep moving and need to minimise turns), whereas terminal vehicles (buses, Uber/Taxi, Courier and Disabled) are terminating (stopping). Cyclists should not be mixed with terminal vehicles, and their transit should not pass through pedestrian zones, especially disembarking passengers or couriers with hand-carts. Because of the high volume of terminal vehicles, pull offs should be provided, not the bus tables that block the single lane of traffic. Accordingly, it makes sense to put the cycle lanes in the middle, and future proof them by making them wide enough for two cycle lanes in each direction. Because of the students, there will be a mix of inexperienced, slow riders and very fast package delivery cyclists and an increasing number of cycle commuters.
